Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was one of the first Roberts to move to Atlanta. Her father was a young man when he began to take an interest in theater. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in numerous productions on and off the campus. After he enlisted in the Air force and was spotted together with Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first son, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. The couple divorced in 1957. the military and Walter was enrolled in Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960, the family relocated into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter along with Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the children's local Saturday morning television program Bum Bum and His Buddies that they self-funded. They also created an organization that lasted for six years called the Actors and Writers Workshop later the same year. Lelisa Billingsley often referred to as Lisa was born in 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
