Laura Linney is an American actress who is well-known for her performance of powerful but fragile characters. Her father was an acclaimed playwright, but Linney was raised as an only child by her single-mother, a nurse. Through the summer months, while with her dad Linney discovered a love for theatre. She eventually studied acting first through Brown University then at Juilliard School. After graduating at Brown University, she started her Broadway debut soon afterward. After two years of that, her first film came out and the next year she made her television debut. She has appeared on numerous shows on stage, television and film programs since. She's been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her professional career. Yet, despite numerous awards the theatre is still her first love and she is still appearing on screen and on stage.
