Katherine Heigl discusses how growing up in a 'white bubble' has impacted the way that she parented her adopted family of multiracial origins. In an interview with the "Firefly Lane" and "Grey's Anatomy" actress admitted her looks didn't bother her. But after speaking to her adopted sister in South Korea about how society had treated them, she was conscious of the differences their lives were. "I asked Meg how she was that she was treated differently when going out with our parents and when she went out on her own. She replied "Oh, yes, every occasion!" Heigl told her parents she realized how foolish she was. The actor said she became angry but felt she needed use that anger to help adopt her daughters. Heigl has a four year old son and a 13-year-old wife, Josh Kelley. They adopted their daughter Nancy Leigh, 12, from South Korea in 2009 and Adalaide 8 years old who is Black, in 2012.
